Description: Galactokinase belongs to the GHMP kinase family and GalK subfamily. Galactokinase is more important to the galactose metabolism pathway. It modifies galactose to create a similar molecule called Galactose-1-Phosphate.Thus, a series of additional steps converts Galactose-1-Phosphate to another simple sugar Glucose, which is the main energy source for most cells. Galactokinase deficiency results in Galactosemia II, an autosomal recessive deficiency characterised by congenital cataracts during infancy and presenile cataracts in the adult population. The cataracts are secondary to accumulation of Galactitol in the lenses.

Description: Inositol monophosphatase 2, also known as Inositol-1(or 4)-monophosphatase 2, Myo-inositol monophosphatase A2 and IMPA2, is an enzyme which belongs to the inositol monophosphatase family. IMPA2 catalyses the dephosphoylration of inositol monophosphate with cofactor Magnesium and Inhibited by high Li+ and restricted Mg2+ concentrations. IMPA2 plays an important role in phosphatidylinositol signaling. IMPA2 can use the myo-inositol monophosphates, scylloinositol 1,4-diphosphate, glucose-1-phosphate, beta-glycerophosphate, and 2'-AMP as substrates. IMPA2 is a pharmacological target for lithium Li(+) action in brain, it is considered to have a role in schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Description: Role of a balanced salt solution in cell culture is multifaceted and can be divided into four principal functions: 1. Serves as an irrigating, transporting and diluting fluid while maintaining intra- and extracellular osmotic balance; 2. Provides cells with water and certain bulk inorganic ions essential for normal cell metabolism; 3. Combined with a carbohydrate, such as glucose, provides the principal energy source for cell metabolism; 4. Provides a buffering system to maintain the medium within the physiological pH range (7,2 to 7,6).

Description: Messenger RNA (mRNA) degradation plays a key role in the control of gene expression in all organisms by limiting the number of times that each mRNA molecule can be used as a template for protein synthesis. RNA pyrophosphohydrolase, also called RppH, is a master regulator of 5'-dependent mRNA decay. It accelerates the degradation of transcripts by removing pyrophosphate from the 5'-end of triphosphorylated RNA, leading to a more labile monophosphorylated state that can stimulate subsequent ribonuclease cleavage. RppH preferentially hydrolyses diadenosine penta-phosphate with ATP as one of the reaction products, and can be able to hydrolyse diadenosine hexa- and tetra-phosphate. However, this protein has no activity on diadenosine tri-phosphate, ADP-ribose, NADH and UDP-glucose. In the meningitis causing strain E. coli K1, it has been shown to play a role in HBMEC (human brain microvascular endothelial cells) invasion in vitro.

Description: Tumor suppressor. Acts as a dual-specificity protein phosphatase, dephosphorylating tyrosine-, serine- and threonine-phosphorylated proteins. Also acts as a lipid phosphatase, removing the phosphate in the D3 position of the inositol ring from phosphatidylinositol 3, 4, 5-trisphosphate, phosphatidylinositol 3, 4-diphosphate, phosphatidylinositol 3-phosphate and inositol 1, 3, 4, 5-tetrakisphosphate with order of substrate preference in vitro PtdIns(3, 4, 5)P3 > PtdIns(3, 4)P2 > PtdIns3P > Ins(1, 3, 4, 5)P4. The lipid phosphatase activity is critical for its tumor suppressor function. Antagonizes the PI3K-AKT/PKB signaling pathway by dephosphorylating phosphoinositides and thereby modulating cell cycle progression and cell survival. The unphosphorylated form cooperates with AIP1 to suppress AKT1 activation. Dephosphorylates tyrosine-phosphorylated focal adhesion kinase and inhibits cell migration and integrin-mediated cell spreading and focal adhesion formation. May be a negative regulator of insulin signaling and glucose metabolism in adipose tissue.

Description: p-Nitroblue Tetrazolium Chloride is an NADPH-diaphorase substrate that competitively inhibits NOS (nitric oxide synthase) (IC50 = 3-4 μM). In combination with 5-Bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl phosphate (BCIP) and an appropriate reaction buffer, Nitroblue tetrazolium forms a substrate for the colorimetric detection of alkaline phosphatase conjugates in a variety of molecular and cell biology techniques.

p-nitro blue tetrazolium is used for the detection of alkaline phosphatase on western blots. It has also been used as a redox indicator for other enzymatic reactions including dehydrogenases, threonine deaminase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, phosphofructokinase on polyacrylamide gels, oxidases on polyacrylamide gels, and pentose shunt dehydrogenases. Redox and halfwave potentials have been determined for p - nitro blue tetrazolium. It has also been used as a colorimetric indicator of bacterial infection in blood samples.
