Description: In cooperation with other chaperones, Hsp70s stabilize preexistent proteins against aggregation and mediate the folding of newly translated polypeptides in the cytosol as well as within organelles. These chaperones participate in all these processes through their ability to recognize nonnative conformations of other proteins. They bind extended peptide segments with a net hydrophobic character exposed by polypeptides during translation and membrane translocation, or following stress-induced damage. In case of rotavirus A infection, serves as a post-attachment receptor for the virus to facilitate entry into the cell.

Description: Recognizes a protein of 21 kDa-25 kDa, identified as retinol binding protein-1 (RBP1). This protein belongs to the lipocalin family and is the specific carrier for retinol (vitamin A alcohol) in the blood. It delivers retinol from the liver stores to the peripheral tissues. In plasma, the RBP-retinol complex interacts with transthyretin, which prevents its loss by filtration through the kidney glomeruli. A deficiency of vitamin A blocks secretion of the binding protein post-transnationally and results in defective delivery and supply to the epidermal cells.

Description: RBM15 is a 977 amino acid protein that localizes to the nucleus and contains one SPOC domain and three RRM domains. Expressed as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms, RBM15 interacts with Epstein-Barr (EBV) viral proteins and is thought to be involved in the regulation of Hox genes, possibly via interactions with RNA and spliceosome components. RBM15 is subject to post-translational phosphorylation, probably by ATM or ATR. Chromosomal aberrations involving the RBM15 gene, which localizes to human chromosome 1, may be associated with the development of acute megakaryoblastic leukemia.

Description: The product encoded by this gene is involved in the maintenance of iron homeostasis, and it is necessary for the regulation of iron storage in macrophages, and for intestinal iron absorption. The preproprotein is post-translationally cleaved into mature peptides of 20, 22 and 25 amino acids, and these active peptides are rich in cysteines, which form intramolecular bonds that stabilize their beta-sheet structures. These peptides exhibit antimicrobial activity. Mutations in this gene cause hemochromatosis type 2B, also known as juvenile hemochromatosis, a disease caused by severe iron overload that results in cardiomyopathy, cirrhosis, and endocrine failure. Description: ASH1L is a 2969 amino acid protein encoded by the human gene ASH1L. ASH1L belongs to the histone-lysine methyltransferase family (SET2 subfamily) and contains three AT hook DNA-binding domains, one AWS domain, one BAH domain, one bromodomain, one PHD-type zinc finger, one post-SET domain and one SET domain. It is a widely expressed nuclear protein with highest expression found in brain, heart and kidney. ASH1L is a histone methyltransferase and is believed to methylate 'Lys-4' of Histone H3, which is a specific tag for epigenetic transcriptional activation.

Description: Component of the eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3 (eIF-3) complex, which is required for several steps in the initiation of protein synthesis. The eIF-3 complex associates with the 40S ribosome and facilitates the recruitment of eIF-1, eIF-1A, eIF-2:GTP:methionyl-tRNAi and eIF-5 to form the 43S preinitiation complex (43S PIC). The eIF-3 complex stimulates mRNA recruitment to the 43S PIC and scanning of the mRNA for AUG recognition. The eIF-3 complex is also required for disassembly and recycling of post-termination ribosomal complexes and subsequently prevents premature joining of the 40S and 60S ribosomal subunits prior to initiation.

Description: Receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA). Mediates cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions through its affinity for HA, and possibly also through its affinity for other ligands such as osteopontin, collagens, and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Adhesion with HA plays an important role in cell migration, tumor growth and progression. In cancer cells, may play an important role in invadopodia formation. Also involved in lymphocyte activation, recirculation and homing, and in hematopoiesis. Altered expression or dysfunction causes numerous pathogenic phenotypes. Great protein heterogeneity due to numerous alternative splicing and post-translational modification events.

Description: Core component of nucleosome. Nucleosomes wrap and compact DNA into chromatin, limiting DNA accessibility to the cellular machineries which require DNA as a template. Histones thereby play a central role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, DNA replication and chromosomal stability. DNA accessibility is regulated via a complex set of post-translational modifications of histones, also called histone code, and nucleosome remodeling.
