Description: Post-transcriptional editing of apolipoprotein B (apoB) mRNA is regulated by This gene encodes a member of the cytidine deaminase enzyme family. The encoded protein forms a multiple-protein editing holoenzyme with APOBEC1 complementation factor (ACF) and APOBEC1 stimulating protein (ASP). This holoenzyme is involved in the editing of C-to-U nucleotide bases in apolipoprotein B and neurofibromatosis-1 mRNAs. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

Description: eNOS is a calcium/calmodulin dependent enzyme which undergoes several post translational modifications, including acylation with myristate and palmitate, and phosphorylation on numerous residues. As with the other members of the NOS family, eNOS derives the diffusible multifunctional second messenger NO from L arginine through a series of reactions in which L citrulline is an intermediate. eNOS plays an important role in controlling vascular tone, platelet aggregation, and cardiac myocyte function.

Description: Osteocalcin belongs to the osteocalcin/matrix Gla protein family and constitutes 1 to 2% of the total bone protein. It is a 49 amino acid single chain vitamin K dependent protein, made by osteoblasts, and is a major component of the noncollagenous bone matrix. Post translational modification by a vitamin K dependent carboxylase produces three gamma carboxyglutamic acid residues at positions 17, 21 and 24, giving it a high affinity for calcium. It also binds strongly to apatite.

Description: Core component of nucleosome. Nucleosomes wrap and compact DNA into chromatin, limiting DNA accessibility to the cellular machineries which require DNA as a template. Histones thereby play a central role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, DNA replication and chromosomal stability. DNA accessibility is regulated via a complex set of post-translational modifications of histones, also called histone code, and nucleosome remodeling.

Description: NUR77 is a member of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily. The gene for NUR77 is induced rapidly by androgens/growth factors and may have functions related to cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. It has been demonstrated that mouse NUR77 is necessary for induced apoptosis in T-cell hybridomas and can also be induced during early mitogenesis. NUR77 is a phosphoprotein and its size ranges from 67 kDa to 88 kDa, depending on post-translational modifications.

Description: This gene encodes a member of the gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) family, which are important in the metabolism of glutathione. The most ubiquitously expressed human GGT gene, GGT1, encodes a single transmembrane polypeptide that is post-translationally processed to form a heavy and a light chain. In contrast, the product of this gene only contains homology to the light chain region, and lacks a transmembrane domain. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified.

Description: In cooperation with other chaperones, Hsp70s stabilize preexistent proteins against aggregation and mediate the folding of newly translated polypeptides in the cytosol as well as within organelles. These chaperones participate in all these processes through their ability to recognize nonnative conformations of other proteins. They bind extended peptide segments with a net hydrophobic character exposed by polypeptides during translation and membrane translocation, or following stress-induced damage. In case of rotavirus A infection, serves as a post-attachment receptor for the virus to facilitate entry into the cell.

Description: RBM15 is a 977 amino acid protein that localizes to the nucleus and contains one SPOC domain and three RRM domains. Expressed as multiple alternatively spliced isoforms, RBM15 interacts with Epstein-Barr (EBV) viral proteins and is thought to be involved in the regulation of Hox genes, possibly via interactions with RNA and spliceosome components. RBM15 is subject to post-translational phosphorylation, probably by ATM or ATR. Chromosomal aberrations involving the RBM15 gene, which localizes to human chromosome 1, may be associated with the development of acute megakaryoblastic leukemia.
