Uracil is a pyrimidine derivative.
Used in drug delivery and in pharmaceuticals. In addition to this, it is used in the synthesis of caffeine and in the determination of microbial contamination of tomatoes.
Soluble in NaOH (40 mg/ml - clear, colourless solution, in hot water, ammonia water and other alkalies; slightly soluble in cold water; almost insoluble in alcohol and ether.
