HEMATOGNOST Fe®

Used to detect free ionic iron using the Prussian blue method in cells and tissues

HEMATOGNOST Fe® is a staining kit for performing the so-called Prussian blue (Berlin blue) reaction in hematological and histological specimen material.
This staining kit contains all the reagents necessary for the detection of free ionic iron. The Prussian blue reaction describes the reaction of any free ionic iron (Fe(III)) in the tissue with potassium hexacyanoferrate (II) aqueous hydrochloric acid solution. The reaction product is a typical bright blue particle that precipitates as a non-soluble complex in blood, bone marrow or tissue cells, thus, detecting free cellular iron. The reaction is used, for instance, to diagnose hemochromatosis (liver) and asbestosis (lung and joints) in histological approaches and bone marrow diseases in hematology. In tissue sections, amounts of down to 0.0002 µg ionic iron can be detected. The staining kit is sufficient for 6 - 8 stainings with up to 16 slides. The staining kit is developed and registered as CE / IVD product for applications in diagnostics.
